GRAND SPORT COUPE

A NOBLE NAMESAKE

Grand Sport echoes from the formative days of the 1960s when Corvette was cutting its teeth in brutal endurance races such as Les 24 Heures du Mans and the 12 Hours of Sebring. Those learnings applied, today's Grand Sport coupe offers one of the best combinations of all-out performance and efficiency of any sports car.

SAFETY

The most important measure of performance

Corvette is engineered for safety before, during and - thanks to OnStar® - after a collision

Active Handling and 4-wheel antilock brakes help you stay on the road and in control to help avoid accidents in the first place.

Standard run-flat tires enable safe function during and after loss of pressure for some distance at a moderate speed until the tire can be repaired.

Standard high intensity discharge xenon headlamps shed 900 lumens of light onto the road for excellent visibility.

Frontal and side-impact air bags(2) help protect you in the event of a collision.

GRAND SPORT CONVERTIBLE: SUN, SKY, THUNDER

Grand Sport echoes from the formative days of the 1960s when Corvette was cutting its teeth in brutal endurance races such as Les 24 Heures du Mans and the 12 Hours of Sebring. Those learnings applied, today's Grand Sport convertible offers an incredible combination of performance and efficiency with 0 to 60 mph in 3.95 seconds, 1g on the skidpad and 26 MPG highway(3), plus pure open-air exhilaration that only a convertible can offer.

CORVETTE Z06

UPPING THE ANTE

Six years ago, the sixth-generation Corvette Z06 stunned the sports car world. Corvette Z06 is powered by a 7.0 Liter V8 engine, hand-built by a skilled craftsmen at GM's Performance Build Center in Michigan(4). When it comes to performance, no amount of attention is too great and no detail is overlooked. That's why Z06 offers available Michelin PS Cup tires, an available carbon fiber domed hood and Magnetic Selective Ride Control with Performance Traction Management (PTM).

PERFORMANCE

505 hp/198 mph on the test track

Z06 is powered by a 7.0 Liter LS7 aluminum block V8 with an 11.0:1 compression ratio. It delivers an SAE-certified 505 hp at 6300 rpm and 470 lb.-ft. of torque at 4800 rpm. The engine employs lightweight titanium intake valves and connecting rods and contains a high-performance dry-sump oil system, which distributes pressurized oil to protect vital components under high-g driving conditions. Helping Z06 perform even better is the fact that it is the lightest Corvette at 3,175 lbs., thanks to a litany of racing-derived components.

Fast stops... fast starts

Impressive brakes are necessary to stop a sports car capable of a test-track top speed of 198 mph. Z06 uses monoblock six-piston front calipers and four-piston rears. The extra-large 14-inch front rotors and 13.4-inch rears are vented and cross-drilled. Launch control is standard with the short-throw six-speed manual gearbox. It modulates engine rpm to lay the power down more smoothly while providing consistent acceleration times on the test track.

THE ULTIMATE CORVETTE: ZR1

OUR FASTEST PRODUCTION CAR OF ALL TIME

Here's what's possible when you apply everything you've learned in racing and engineering to a single automobile - the Corvette ZR1 (very limited availability). With its 638-hp supercharged LS9 engine and a test-track top speed of 205 mph, it is the fastest GM production car of all time. The ZR1 was the overall winner of the 2010 Car and Driver Lightning Lap competition, which pitted the ZR1 against the fastest cars in the world.

PERFORMANCE

638 hp/205 mph on the test track

ZR1 is powered by a 6.2 Liter LS9 aluminum block V8 equipped with a four-lobe Eaton® Twin Vortices Series™ supercharger with intercooler. It delivers an SAE-certified 638 hp at 6500 rpm and 604 lb.- ft. of torque at 3800 rpm. The engine employs lightweight titanium intake valves and connecting rods and contains a high-performance dry-sump oil system, which distributes pressurized oil from an external reservoir to protect vital components under high-g driving conditions.

It goes on the scale before it goes on the car

ZR1 engineers were religious about maintaining a favorable power-to-weight ratio. So they specified high-strength, lightweight materials wherever possible. One example is the aluminum frame structure (the same one used on the C6.R race car), which weighs 138 lbs. less than an equivalent steel structure. Result: an extremely favorable power-to-weight ratio of 5.2 pounds per horsepower.

Brembo® carbon-ceramic stopping power

The ZR1 offers massive stopping power, thanks to its Brembo® carbon-ceramic brake rotors that weigh almost 50 percent less than equivalent cast-iron units. Besides reducing overall mass, they are capable of operating at 1,000 degrees Celsius (as hot as molten lava) without warping. The system employs six-piston front and four-piston rear calipers engaging vented, cross-drilled rotors.
